The Grading Ticket

What "4Cs" actually means on your certificate

Every stone we sell above 0.30ct carries independent IGI or GIA paperwork. These are the four lines that matter most on it.

CUT

Excellent - Poor

Governs how light returns to your eye. We buy rough specifically to protect Excellent and Very Good grades never trading cut for extra carat weight.

COLOR

D to G

Most of our bridal stock sits between F and H a range where warmth is invisible to the eye but the price is meaningfully lower than DE.

CLARITY

FL IF

We rarely stock below SI1. Inclusions below that grade can be visible without magnification, which we think undersells a piece.

CARAT

Weight, Not Size

Two 1-carat stones can look different sizes face-up. We quote millimetre diameter alongside carat for exactly this reason.

01

Planning the Rough

Every rough stone is mapped under magnification to find the cut that keeps the most weight without sacrificing brilliance sometimes a week of study before a single cut is made.

02

Sawing & Cleaving

The stone is split along its grain with a laser or diamond-edged blade, separating it into pieces sized for the shapes it will become.

03

Faceting

Each facet is ground and polished on a cast-iron lap dressed with diamond powder the only substance hard enough to shape a diamond is another diamond.

04

Grading & Setting

The finished stone is sent for independent certification, then handed to a single karigar who sets it, polishes the metal, and signs off the piece.

A Skilled, Slow Task

Why we don't rush the wheel.

A cutter can shave hours off a stone by cutting to a shallower angle and keeping more weight the diamond weighs more, and sells for more, but throws less light. We pay our cutters on finished brilliance, not finished carat, which is a slower and more expensive way to run a workshop.

It's also why two rings that look identical online can differ in price: the one that cost more, cost more to cut.
